What It Takes to Grow With Plant Lights

September 2, 2015 By GrowHobby Leave a Comment

There’s a little more to indoor growing than many people realize, but the truth is the prospect doesn’t have to be daunting. Bringing seeds to life, reviving struggling houseplants and even giving a hard-to-grow orchid a fighting chance is a lot simpler when plant lights are used.

LED plant lights are simple, yet powerful, devices that mimic the sun’s nourishing light, enabling plants to thrive in the indoors. These lights are similar to full hydroponic setups, but they’re meant less for commercial ventures and more for hobbyists that simply want to show off their green thumbs. Rather than require extensive set up, the best plant lights just screw into an ordinary socket, enabling users to turn almost any lamp into a growing power house.

Here are a few tips for getting started:

  • Set aside a space – Because LED plant lights enable transforming any light into a growing light, the space doesn’t need to be very big. Just ensure there’s enough room between the plant canopy and the light source to provide for optimum growth. If a light is too close, growth can be stunted. If it’s too far, stretching may occur. Just read the recommendations on the LED light instructions to get an idea of the proper distancing. Beyond that, any table or counter should do the trick.
  • Decide on plants – Indoor growing presents a lot of possibilities. These plant lights are perfect for growing vegetables, houseplants, succulents and even hard-to-grow orchids. Brush up on the plants selected to ensure proper potting and watering.
  • Just screw in the lights – After a space is established, plants are selected and indoor growing is ready to begin, just turn on the light source to begin providing plants all the light they need to thrive indoors no matter what outside conditions are like. Keep in mind that indoor lights are ideal for year-round growing of a number of plants and they work wonders for getting seedlings started to get a jump on seasonal planting. They are also perfect for helping nurse failing houseplants back to life.

Indoor growing doesn’t have to be a difficult undertaking. The right plant lights and a little determination can help anyone develop an instant green thumb. Just make sure to keep up with the specific needs of the plants being grown and do take care to offer proper spacing between the light and the plant canopy.
