Using LED Grow Lights At Home

September 2, 2015 By GrowHobby Leave a Comment

A lot of at-home gardeners toil in the hot sun working to keep their flower beds pristine and their plants growing strong. When plants are grown from seeds or seedlings, the amount of time and effort required to help them thrive outdoors can be staggering. LED grow lights can change all of this, even when outdoor weather conditions aren’t conducive for growing. At-home use of these handy devices can help anyone gain a growing edge.

LED grow lights provide at-home gardeners with a number of advantages in their quest to produce healthy flowers, vegetables and even herbs, succulents and orchids. These lights simulate the sun inside, which means battling the elements to enjoy healthy growth isn’t required – even if only in the early growing stages when proper care is critical.

Tips for Using LED Grow Lights at Home

When LED grow lights are properly used, it’s fairly simple for anyone to enjoy a beautiful garden indoors and out. These lights are perfect for promoting growth from seeds and providing just a few extra weeks of protection for delicate seedlings. Here are just a few tips to get started with their use:

  • Set aside the space – The amount of space needed for using LED grow lights to promote plant growth will depend on the plants in question and the quantity. A small tray of seeds or seedlings, for example, might fit perfectly on a folding table set up in a corner. Should the desire be to start an entire vegetable garden inside, tables set up in a spare room or garage should work nicely.
  • Set the lights – LED grow lights are actually bulbs that will fit into just about any lamp. Ideally, the lamp design should be adjustable to enable overhead hanging of the lights at a proper distance to the plant canopy. The distance required for optimum growth will depend on the power of the light and the plants’ requirements. Keep in mind distancing may need to be adjusted as plants grow bigger and stronger.
  • Simulate the sun – LED grow lights shouldn’t be operated around the clock. The amount of time required for daily use will depend on the plants in question. Some plants simply require more access to light than others. Just remember to turn off the lights to simulate nighttime, which is also important for proper plant growth.

LED grow lights provide an economical alternative to help at-home gardeners get an edge and reduce their hours toiling outdoors. By giving plants a controlled indoor start, growers can give themselves an edge.
